From The Associated Press, 7/15/03: http://www.boston.com/dailynews/196/...aid_to_:.shtml Coalition's departure said to be in the hands of Iraqis, but open-ended stay is in store for some By Hamza Hendawi, Associated Press BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) For the first time, the U.S. administrator linked the U.S. occupation in Iraq to the political process, saying Tuesday that American forces would remain in the country until Iraqis agree on a new constitution and set up a democratic government. American soldiers grumbled when told they would have to stay longer in a country where U.S. forces say they are coming under an average of 12 attacks each day. ''I'm tired of going to bed wondering if I'm going to wake up in the morning,'' said Spc. David Myers Jr. of the 3rd Infantry Division's 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment in Habaniyah, west of Baghdad. __________________________________________________ _____ A pathetic Bush quagmire. I think it's officially time to start calling the Iraq situation for what it is. -- "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Teddy Roosevelt |
