You know I heard that argument when I was in the Corpse and I didn't buy it
then I don't buy it now. Slavery was outlawed over 100 years ago in this country and the government is not above the law of the land and the constitution. At best I always sort of thought of my pay in the military as kind of a retainer like a lawyer gets, pay to not work for someone else in case they need you. Seriously though the men and women in the armed service have and should have a reasonable expectation that the civilian population that they are serving should be responsible in how they spend those freedoms they have voluntarily forgone. By not sending them into harms way for trivial or unjust reasons. BY insisting they be treated decently and are accorded all reasonable rights. Essentially that we do not abuse the trust that they have placed in our hands. For the most part the bulk of our fighting force are made up of men and women who are still just older children. They don't have full rights of majority they can not walk into a bar and order a beer they can not go into a casino in Las Vegas and gamble. There for it is the responsibility of those of us who they are serving to see that their trust is not in vain. I'll say this much, If the Bush twins were 2nd Lts in an infantry regiment I doubt Bush would be so cavalier in ordering them into danger nor would he be so quick to provoke retaliation. Would that be the same arguement as saying that Clinton never would have sent the Blackhawks and SF untis into Mogadishu if Chelsea was attached to one of those units? What a bunch of shit. You're an asshole - and a liar. Of course, we knew that - you're a liberal. Regards, snipped |
