http://www.rronline.com/Subscribers/...s/homepage.htm Tuesday, July 8, 2003 Michael Savage Apologizes After MSNBC Fires Him For Anti-Gay Tirade The Talk Radio Networks-syndicated radio host, whose weekly TV show debuted on MSNBC just last March, was fired Monday after he reportedly called an unidentified male caller to Saturday's program a "sodomite" and told him he should "get AIDS and die." But at the top of his radio show yesterday, Savage said the incident was misrepresented and that he was "set up by a crank caller from a competing talk show" -- Westwood One's Don and Mike Show -- who Savage said made "vicious personal attacks against me." Savage claims he signaled his MSNBC producer to cut off the caller and was unaware that he was still on the air when he "reacted to him personally as an individual trying to defend myself. If my comments brought pain to anyone, I apologize. It was not meant to reflect my views of the terrible tragedy and suffering associated with AIDS. I appeal to my many listeners in the gay community to accept my apology for any inadvertent insults which may have occurred." The controversial talk host has been the target of numerous protests by activist groups including the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which called the cable news network's firing of Savage "about time." __________________________________________________ _ Can you hear Weiner sobbing uncontrollably?
