Nuke program parts unearthed in Baghdad back yard U.S. officials:

Friday, June 27, 2003 Posted: 6:27 AM EDT (1027 GMT)

Parts of a gas centrifuge system for enriching uranium were dug
up in Baghdad.

WHY THE CENTRIFUGE IS IMPORTANT

Uranium hexafluoride gas is placed in a series of rotating drums
or cylinders that run at high speeds to extract weapon grade
uranium.

(CNN) -- The CIA has in its hands the critical parts of a key
piece of Iraqi nuclear technology -- parts needed to develop a
bomb program -- that were dug up in a back yard in Baghdad, CNN
has learned.

The parts, with accompanying plans, were unearthed by Iraqi
scientist Mahdi Obeidi who said he had hidden them under a rose
bush in his garden 12 years ago under orders from Qusay Hussein
and Saddam Hussein's then son-in-law, Hussein Kamel.

CNN Security Correspondent David Ensor reports that under United
Nations sanctions in place in 1991, the concealment of such
materials -- and failure to disclose their presence -- would have
constituted violations of Security Council regulations.

But U.S. officials emphasized that this was not evidence Iraq had
a nuclear weapon -- but it was evidence the Iraqis concealed
plans to reconstitute their nuclear program as soon as the world
was no longer looking."

End.

Doug Says: It is clear that Saddam ordered his nuclear weapon's
program key parts to be disassembled, hidden in scattered areas,
only to be reassembled when the Inspectors had reported to the UN
they "could not find anything." It is also clear that Saddam has
used this very same tactic with his other WMD, along with
delivering some of his WMD intact to third parties.

Can you imagine what horror the world would be facing in the near
future had President Bush and PM Blair failed to act against
Saddam when they did? We know that Saddam has murdered at least
500,000 people (and that number is growing) so is there any doubt
that after the UN Inspectors left Iraq that Saddam would not have
reassembled his Nuclear weapon program and used that nuclear
weapon against the USA? Thanks to President Bush and PM Blair,
the world has clearly dodged a nuclear bullet.

The world owes President Bush and PM Blair a deep appreciation
for their resolve to do what was necessary to protect the world.
These two men did what was necessary regardless of the negative
political implications their decision to go to war would
generate. These two World leaders knew what was right, what had
to be done, and they did it regardless of the flak they knew they
would receive from their detractors and political opposition. We
need more leaders like these two, and I for one congratulate them
on their resolve and decisiveness in this regard.

President Bush and PM Blair have been nominated for the Nobel
Peace Prize for 2004, and I certainly hope they receive this
award as they clearly deserve it.
