A whimsical sunny day. Kids are returning home from school. We find Ann quickly skipping home from school. She whistles carefree as she skips, an old tune by Irving Berlin. She spots old Mr. Phillips. Ann has always hated Mr. Phillips, the way he looks. The way he smells. "There otta be a law." she thinks to herself. She kicks old Mr. Phillips, an elderly homeless man, in the balls. He folds over, pushing his walker aside as he stumbles to get footing. He slides down, back against the wall, mercifully slipping into unconsciousness. Ann continues to skip, hopping up the steps to the front door. She opens the screen door and walks quickly to her room. She has a look of puzzlement as she unloads her books on to her bed. She shouts to her mother asking if she could talk with her. Her mother walks up to the entryway of Ann's bedroom.
Ann's Mom: Yes, Ann? Ann: Mommy, I was talking to kids at school. My friends said that the stork delivers babies. Is it true Mommy? Ann's Mom: Honey, Honey come here and sit down next to me on your bed here. We need to have a little talk. Ann: Is it true Mommy? That funny looking bird. It comes down and.. delvers babies to all the Mommies out there in the world? Ann's Mom: Well honey... er... yes and no... Ann: Tell me Mommy! Is it true? Can I see them? What if I stay up late?? Ann's Mom: Honey, don't tell this to daddy but... Ann's mother hesitates. No need to continue the lie. Her thoughts tumble. It is time. No need to carry this further. She would find out soon enough. Her father will find out. She needs to know... No reason to keep the secret. none at all..... Ann's Mom: Ann honey, the stork IS your daddy. ______________________________________________ ![]() -Sky. |
