He wasn't, but I've joked with Jeff about the VM being an anvil before, and didn't feel the need to kick my two cents in this time. I really like the solid feel of a VM with a 20oz back bottle, which no doubt feels like such a stable shooting platform because the 'gun doesn't even budge when you want it to. > Says alot for many of the "Long time PBers" Yeah, you're not kidding. On the other hand, though, what do we define as a `long time paintballer'? It says something about the longevity and evolution of our sport that nowadays someone who's played for the past five years could legitimately have done so without ever picking up a pump, for instance, or seeing a VM-68. Right now I've got visuals of "trying to run", but the VM68 not moving at all. Kind of cartoony look to it. I've got a VM68 in my hands right now. I had truly forgotten how damn heavy these things are, and the air tank I have on it is EMPTY! It's just a 9oz tank, so that wouldn't weigh THAT much more, but damn! What do they make the receiver from, a solid chunk of aircraft steel or something?? Dry firing, working the bolt is an EXERCISE, damn... *YANNNK* ugh... ok, now I can fire it... *CLANK!!* pull back bolt *YAAANNNK* goddammit... Another gun had a very distinctive "CLANK" when firing, a very metallic sound. I know I'm not giving you much to go on, but just from that, can you guess what it was? Hint: early semi-auto... > > Says alot for many of the "Long time PBers" > > Yeah, you're not kidding. On the other hand, though, what do we > define as a `long time paintballer'? I think you have to legitimately be able to say "In *MY* day..." ![]() of course, it has to be followed by something appropriately anachronistic. All of the following are true of my paintball career: Begin each one with "In *MY* day..." - We played with woodstalk masks and shop goggles. - You fired a LOT if you went through more than 100 paintballs in a day. - Every field was basically a cleared garbage dump, with old cars and airplanes(!!) littering the field. - The first non-pump I ever had to face was a full auto.** - Hi-tech was a 6pak changer. - Everyone was a newbie. ** Yep, the SMG-60 was the first NON-pump gun I ever faced. **** me in the goat ass. Good thing it only held 15 shots. Side note: I took all 15 in the chest from about 10 feet one time(we surprised each other around a bunch of bushes, i got one shot off, he simply held down the trigger). -- Jeff Goslin - MCSD - www.goslin.info It's not a god complex when you're always right |
