Airgun REALLY needs to make a comeback! I was at a field Saturday and a
kid comes up and asks what kinda gun I'm using.

Me: "It's an Automag RT."
Kid: "An autococker?"
Me: "No, MAG, AutoMAG."
Kid: "What's that?"
Me: "Old school gun."
Kid: "Is it electronic?"
Me: "No."
Kid: "Oh." <wanders off>

This is like the 12th time that's happened to me. Almost everyone at
that field had no idea what a mag was. I know there's a lot of newbs at
that little rinky-dink, lawsuit waiting to happen field, but for
Christ's sake come on. I'm not *that* old and have only been playing
for a half a dozen years or so. Hell, I'm still a little wet behind the
ears.
I thought AGD would make a little progress with the DeadlyWind hAir
trigger coming onto the scene, but the hAir was halted by threats from
Pro-Team. I really would like to see Mags make a little bit of a
comeback because if I have to explain what a Mag is again there will be
more than a few people walking onto the field with the end of a barrel
and a barrel plug sticking out of their asses.
That's right, tank first. ;-)

You won't find any disagreement here, but...

When a light spatter of rain starts at the outdoor field, a cry of
"Cover up your guns!" arises from everyone else there. I find that
laughable, if not pathetic, but apparently I am the only one.

I was going to write a little screed here, but this quote from Tom
on automags.org pretty much sums it up:

# Today the market is crowded with good high end guns all claiming to
# be the best through ads and sponsorships. Frankly we suck at
# marketing because we are an engineering based company that
# concentrates on performance before looks. Good marketing spends
# money on an image, then bombards you with that image until you feel
# that is the norm. Our approach is to understand clearly what you
# want already and just give you that, instead of trying to change
# your mind. Understanding you clearly and us answering your
# questions clearly is what this forum is all about. I take this so
# seriously that I bear the responsibility myself to come here and
# talk to you.
#
# You are talking, we are listening, we want to be "the gun company
# you know".

I think the influx of ADD-afflicted junkies into our sport has a lot
to do with the decline of AGD. Many players are now more concerned
with having the newest, shiniest, most expensive `bling bling' gear
that the pros use, instead of actually buying only as much 'gun as
they need. They're more focussed on image than substance, and their
purchasing habits reflect that.

That would hurt, especially if it's a 114ci.

I am the president of AGD and answer questions here daily.
If you can find another gun manufacturer that does this for their
customers, please buy their marker. :Tom Kaye (on automags.org)

Paintball has become a fashion show in some ways, either you have the latest
version of the latest electro gun with the latest cheater board and the
latest miracle barrel etc. or you might as well be a museum exhibit. I
still have the first paintgun I bought back in '88, but I know guys who have
bought and sold half a dozen guns in the past year, always in search of that
elusive edge that only comes when their credit card is glowing in the dark.
Ten balls a second, twelve, fourteen -- same player, still sucks, still
hasn't hung a flag, but in theory he has increased his rate of fire by four
balls a second, so I guess it was worth all the money he spent....

Got that right! Lets give the high end electro player 50 balls and a good
player 50 balls and see who wins, no one is out untill someone is tagged! My
guess is the electro will be empty in one pull of the trigger.

Someone made a good point the other day -- the certainty of these guys
that they hit someone is directly proportional to the amount of paint
they've shot at them. So, after emptying all fifty balls in the
general direction of the other guy, the TWiB is going to be jumping
up and down, yelling for everyone and their dog to paintcheck them.
He *knows* he must have hit that other dude, after all, didn't he
just empty a hopper at him? =)

Maybe you need to get one of those `This is not an Autococker'
hopper stickers that all the pump guys have to put on their Sniper IIs.

It's one of those things that can be either a virtuous or a vicious
circle. The more people own 'mags, the more people see them and get
a chance to try them out, and the more people buy them. Conversely,
if very few people own them, few people are aware of them or get to
have a look at them, and few people buy them, since most folks won't
plunk down money for a 'gun sight unseen.

Our guns are better because we care enough to make them as good as we
can. Now don't take my word for it, go over to the Spyder forum and
ask the president of that company why his guns are better than Mags.
When he gives you an answer come back here and tell us about it.
