Some locals from our area (Illinois) are in the Guard. Their unit was
deployed for 13 months to Iraq. Several are collage students that has a
starbucks on campus. They wrote a letter to starbucks asking for some
coffee. They claim they got a letter back explaining Starbucks as a
corporation does not donate to groups. The letter was not rude just
explained they do not do that. Now the 12 of them are back and told this
story to their friends at thier collage campus. Now the poor person who runs
the starbucks franchise at the campus is seeing fewer customiers.
As you read down through the article (See link) it explains the story.
Starbucks will not donate because its against the corp. company policy. They
do not stop employees or "franchise owners" from sending starbucks coffee to
troops over seas. then as you read down Starbucks takes credit for their
franchise owners/employees who do send coffee to troops. Yet on 9/11 when a
franchise charged rescue workers $130.oo for cases of water. They blamed
that on an employee. Then never offered to refund the money or apologize
until it became a news story. So as I said Starbucks does not mail shit to
troops over seas. The employees/franchise owners do it out of their own
pocket. Not starbucks!

Sure. It might have behooved the franchisee to kick the guardsmen
a few pounds of coffee and to have made a point of that in the store,
so as to dodge the fallout.

I'd bet who ever owns the franchise on or near the collage campus would
have. I don't know if they even knew local students in a guard unit were
over seas and wanted starbucks coffee. The thing is they wrote to Starbucks
the corperation. Not a franchise owner or employee.

It's too bad they didn't find out about it (if indeed they didn't)
because surely they would have wanted to. If Tsarbucks is set up like
every other chain that I've experienced, the relationship between
franchisor and franchisee tends to look a lot like the relationship
between wolves and sheep.
