like about paintball ? the fact is most of us suck at basketball football
baseball and a lot of other sports. Paintball can be not only a fun game and anyone regardless of size can be very good...hell even age plays little to do with the sport. BTW/ most can play with their children and bond like no other sport. shooting hoops in my front yard just doesn't have the same effect. woodsball hyperball speedball x-ball it's all paintball. so what if your gun has more shine or if you think your more accurate at 75 feet. who cares, it's all good.... |

I started playing because my kids wanted to play. There aren't any organized
fields very close to me, so I decided I'd play to make sure things stay safe. My kids are getting older now, so interests are changing. We're thinking about giving up paintball (or at least slowing down) so we can learn to fly. -- "Don't be misled, bad company corrupts good character." www.LCTPaintball.com www.LCTProducts.com "Tony Sr." <amargio1@san.rr.com> wrote in message news tGNd.7661$e11.5994@twister.socal.rr.com...> like about paintball ? the fact is most of us suck at basketball football > baseball and a lot of other sports. news tGNd.7661$e11.5994@twister.socal.rr.com:> like about paintball ? I like the stealth aspect. I dig moving into position and sighting down on somebody who doesn't know i'm there. That second where you're deciding to pull the trigger or to move a bit closer. Thinking about the windage and so on -- especially when you've got a pump and the other guy has a monster electro, so you know that shot has to count. Its pretty thrilling. Very few sports have that aspect I think. The other part I dig is the heroic charge -- where you're going for the flag or taking a position doing rolls, matrix style dodges etc. When I'm using the a5 a lot of times I end up being the guy who draws out the oposition, firing madly while my buds circle around and ambush. Once in a while you hit the 'zone' and end up taking them all out -- most times not ![]() Mostly I like it because we've got a good group of people -- not a lot of ego bs and everyone is honest. Its also damn good excercise. BTW: We also do some olympic style fencing (especially in winter)-- which is kind of similar. A lot of tactical thinking goes into it. Nothing motivates you excercise more than someone shooting at you or coming at you with a sword ![]() -z |

+ competitive and very much so
+ quick + takes true team effort, usually + strategy and tactics come into play + at whatever pace you like (I play almost non-stop for five hours on weekends) + good hotdogs! (at least at our field) |

Tony Sr. <amargio1@san.rr.com> Stated, in his own words:
rush, adrenaline, playing in a team, using different tactics, running dodging jumping rolling & all other stuff you do to avoid beeing hit... usually good company, normal decent people.... not a bunch of dumb jocks... -- Opinions are like assholes; Everybody has one and they all stink! |

It's hard to remember now what attracted me to paintball all those eons
ago.. I am sure it's the same stuff everyone else has mentioned.. all that challenging, competitiveness and strategical thinking type stuff... but I keep with it because I have nothing else to do..no no.. wait, that's not it .. I have a few other hobbies and some of them are even cheaper and less cruel to my old body...uh.. The real reason I keep playing is because I have a lot of friends who play and I enjoy their company.. ya know.. most of the time. If I hadn't discovered scenario ball a few years back I doubt I would have stuck with the same ole weekend rec ball by now. Tried tourney ball for a while - to much hurry up and wait for me. Scenario ball offered some variety I hadn't seen in the previous decade of playing, lots of playing time, and a chance for me to attempt to drag large groups of friends out to fields in far away places. Maybe it's the travel?..hmmm.. tomorrow I am buying a motorhome. I always used to play with nerf guns when I was a little kid, so did
many of my friends. We used to always build forts in the woods and play nerf wars. Mostly it was just a firearms upgrade at first. Nerf just doesn't have the range, and having to go pick up all those darts in the woods was a pain. Paintball has become my passion, and it's the same way for many of my friends. We're mostly geeks as well, so if we're not talkin' computers then the subject is paintball. The gear is amazingly fun to work on, modify, and create. I'm loving all the projects my new mill affords me. The actual play aspect of the sport is probably the best part. Although I generally don't do much tournament style play (due to the cheating and bad attitudes I usually have to put up with), I'm very fond of woodsball. I love being the guy that comes up behind you and makes you always look over your shoulder from that game on. Stealthy play is great, but really anything surprising and tactically improbable sounds like a good move for me. I've never been a fan of other sports. I used to play a little soccer when I was younger, but didn't really care for it that much. I just don't see have a great drive to work my ass off for a little checkered ball. Now...gimme one of my many guns and tell me,"go get that flag, and shoot anyone that opposes you"... That sounds like something worth putting a little effort into. One of the best aspects though has to be introducing new players. I've never had anyone play on our renegade field and not have a great time. They ALWAYS want to do it again. This is especially rewarding when the new players are young. It's good to keep them in check while they're developing, so they don't wind up being those cheating idiots at the local public fields. Always also fun to have pump play days with them. Just last weekend I forced 3 young guys to shoot pumps with me in some 2 on 2 games, and you could actually see their strategies improving game to game. Shooting semi/full auto always let them rely on their guns, but now I've got them relying only on themselves... It's a sport for anyone and everyone that's not too tied up in their politically correct crap to shoot someone. It's amazingly fun. You can play it in any weather and it's still fun. As long as everyone's being honest and no one's trying to hurt anyone then you really can't have a bad day at it. Even if you get tagged first every game of the day you'll still have a great time if it's honest play. |
