I know that the output pressure is supposed to be around 850 psi on my CA
tank, but has anybody had a problem with the reg ont he tank putting out
more than the designated pressure. In particular I have a Pure Energy tank,
67/3000 and I hear that there have been problems with these in the past in
fairly significant numbers.

I have an impulse with a horizontal max flow. As soon as I put air to the
marker, the little release valve just above the pressure guage starts to
pop, releasing the air pressure. It is not a steady release like a rupture
disk, but the little valve stem thingy (whatever it is called) pops up and
down releasing air. I am at a loss as to what to do, I took the reg apart,
it seems clean and assembled properly, but the problem persists. A shop
owner suggested it may be too much pressure coming out of the tank, but I am
in doubt.

Any insight would be appreciated before I ship it off to SP.

Thanks

Put a gauge on it.
I actually added another spring to mine so the output pressure would be
higher.
Some guns do better with a low pressure tank. You can get a spring kit for
your regulator that changes it to around 450 psi.

My first suggestion would be to try a different tank, either another
HPA tank with a known good valve or even just a regular CO2 tank. If
the reg still fails, then you know it the reg. If the reg works, that
would mean that the tank may be at fault.

Also, your pro shop should have a pressure gauge to test the ouput
pressure of your tank...
