I have a cheap JT mask I bought at WalMart. I have been having problems
with it fogging up, especially around dusk when the temperature starts
dropping. It says anti-fog lens but that's obviously not completely true.
So in my search for a new mask how do I know that it will not fog up?
Apparently I can't go by a simple statement by the manufacturer saying their
lens is anti-fog.

Which mask would you recommend that won't fog up on me? Field of vision is
of course important, but I'm not paying $80 for a mask. I play rec ball
only, and right now there's not even an organized field within 80 miles --
just me and some friends in the woods. Has anyone tried using sprays, like
Fog-X or something?

Thomas

VForce masks - probaby the shield is in your price range. My glasses fog up
before the mask does.

I use that -- a cheap vforce and fog tech http://www.motosolutions.com/ on
my glasses

bit spendy but that fogtech stuff really does work.

Depending on the lense type (spectra or elite) you can get double-paned JT
lenses that do not fog up. Our entire team uses the JT Spectra Proflex and
we never have fogging issues.

I think there's a huge difference between an "anti-fog" lens (a single lens
usually treated with some spray or coating) and a "thermal" lens which is
two lenses with a gap between them. The difference being (apart from
physical) that the "anti-fog" lens will/can/might still fog up. I've tried
both, and my VForce "anti-fog" fogs up, whilst the Scott mask I use is
thermal (double layer) and never fogs up.

Cheers,
Daniel

Don't use any spray that's not recommended by the mask manufacturer;
it can eat the plastic of the lens and weaken it to the point where it
might not survive a paintball hit. Checking out some of the less
fog-prone masks is a better plan. I've heard nothing but praise for
the V-Force line, myself.

others said are great suggestions!!

Some masks have a single lens, meaning one layer of plastic, and although
they coat the lens with some anti-fog treatment, any lens will fog if
conditions are right. Some masks have a thermal or dual-layer lens, like a
storm window, they prevent warm, moist air on the inside from being cooled
by outside air and forming fog. I can fog any mask, so I use masks which
have a little battery-powered available, eg. the JT Spectra and the new
DYE/Proto Switch. The Spectra is an outstanding deal, great mask at a great
price, you can get them with a single or thermal lens, and a fan is
available.

Thomas,

It's not necessary to buy a new mask, you can still use your JT. All you
need to do is find out the name of the mask and then search online to find a
retailer that sells a thermal lens that will fit. From memory there are 3
different sizes of JT lens; Elite/Nvader, Spectre and Axiom. All of these
should be available in the thermal lens variety.

This will be the cheapest way to upgrade your mask, and JT's are a good mask
so you do not need to change to a complete new mask.
