Ok, Been playing for about 15 years... I even played with Nelspots, 15grams
and 10 shot cigar tube loaders.... heh

Anyways - in the past several years I have only had the opportunity to play
a couple times a year. I have a minimag with a remote, agitator,
yada-yada-yada... But I suspect I am outta touch a bit - heres why:

I just played at a local field where I played rec-ball against a team of
regulars who have e-grip equipped Tippman A5s. These guys maxed out the BPS
every chance they got.

I was shot 4 times each in two different games by one guy and in a third
game I was shot 8 times! I complained to the field owner. I got the response
that "thats just the way it is".

Am I so out of touch that being shot 8 times is not considered overshooting
in rec-ball? If so - then what the hell is overshooting? 10, 15 times? 20
times? Is there such a thing!? For fucks sake - can i just keep shooting
the guy till he crawls off the field!?

In my estimation, this game has changed over the years from being about 90%
skill and 10% equipment to being 60% equipment and 40% skill... I suspect
that the trend will continue and only thoise with big wallets will be able
to have fun. I bet this makes the manufacturers happy....

I partly agree...I still consider overshooting to be at 3 shots or
more...when we play renegade we still pull anyone that hits someone more
than 3 times on a single out...that keeps all the full auto, bounce, and
reactive triggers in check...

I don't think that the sport is 60% equipment 40% skill, but I agree that
now you can't play pump on a public field and keep up very well...I can only
break out my SL-68II on renegade days now...the rest of the time I'm
sporting an Eblade because even my PPS stroker feels hard to return fire
with when these A5 egrips are bearing down on you...I play a lot at a field
run by Tippman employees and inhabited by Tippmann family and employees, so
I definitely know what you mean about the E-grips...80% of the players are
using them there...I haven't seen anyone there with a pure mech gun that's
not atleast an RT...

There is definitely a split going on in the sport...blowing 500 rounds a
game seems to be the norm now...I'll stick to a 500 round bag for the entire
day personally...even though my gun CAN shoot fast and long strings I still
find that quick bursts can keep a healthy balance between the styles of old
and new school players...

you wanna really find something sick in today's paintball world...since when
did wiping and hiding hits become part of the game? It seems like now you
can't get a kill without having a ref there to watch it...our renegade field
again stands out from this; when you get hit you call yourself...we never
even need refs...

Depends where you play. At fields which run a tight ship that kind of
overshooting will still draw a warning followed by expulsion, but there are
lots of places where the operators are slack enough to let it go.

I think you have it about right, although there are still places that want
everyone to have fun without being welted silly. But there is no question
that the "credit card commando" style seems to have gained the upper hand in
many areas, you see these goofs all dressed up like tournament superstars,
hosing out three cases of paint a day, just for a casual rec game, guys who
have never even been to a tournament. What's funny is when they come up
against real tourney players and get their asses handed to them on a plate,
not quite as much fun as shooting up kids with Spyders. ;-)

yes, overshooting is almost the rules these days, but thats life in a
semi auto field. Personally, I find that most of the times I get lit up
bad are cases where more than 2 or 3 people are shooting at me at the
same time. The field I usually play at has an average of 150 players on
it at a time, so there are times when the paint is coming in from what
seems like every direction at once.
On a lighter note, one of the great things about this sport is the fact
that it can be played in so many differant ways & styles. Stock, pump,
woodball, speedball, airball, full auto, flag games, elimination games,
scenerio games....you name it we got it. I think that the key to having
fun is to play at fields that share your own game philosophies. Some
fields are newbie friendly, some are not. Some have long lists of strict
rules, some run a looser game. just find the one that fits best with the
way YOU want to play and all will be well. There is no "One Way" to
play!
And quite frankly, I just dont mind being overshot that much. Ive been
hit by alot of paintballs in the last 18 years, so few more arent going
to bother me much.

Personally I laugh when someone wastes 5-12 balls on me to elmininate me.
It's their money, not mine and my body will eventually heal, while their
wallets take a permenent hit.

However, I think Cybershark inadvertently touched on why people overshoot.
At leats that's why I let my shocker rip on occasion. If I know, and I mean
know for a fact, that I hit someone and they wipe or hide the hit, instead
of whinning for a ref to do a paint check I'll simply hit them with more
paint until they walk off the field. If they wanna pay the $10-$25 field
fee to get welted up instead of playing the game the way it's meant to be
played, who am I to argue?

Getting hit with 4 balls in a game isn't uncommon, but 8 IS pretty harsh. I
can see why this upsets you. I'm not going to lie and say that I've never
done it, however I believe that it should be extremely rare in a rec-ball
game, not the norm.

What happened after you noticed that you first got hit? Did you stay put or
get the hell out of there? If you're playing against tourney players
(unlikely in this case with the A-5's, but regardless) they will keep
shooting until you get out of there. I do it all the time. There's no way to
tell if someone is playing on or just too scared to stand up. But if you got
right up and walked away and they kept hitting you, then yeah that's wrong.

We have these "teams" that ask to play against us at practices and there's
always the one guy who gets all pissed off for getting "overshot". Well you
need to get your ass out of the bunker, buddy. It's amazing how little fire
they take when they just calmly stand up and walk off the field. I'm not
going to waste my ammo, time, and attention to someone that I know is
eliminated.

The onlt trouble I've ever had was not being consitant with the rules...if
there's no shooting within 10feet and you light someone 3 feet away..well
that shouldn't fly for anyone... it applies to anyone on the field.. if the
rtules says 3 shots and it's over shooting on the 4th then you play in a way
so that you don't hit them with a 4th.

Blah blah blah.... I still like giving you a hard time though =)p
