IAO becomes NPPL Sanctioned Event

Pittsburgh, PA. - The International Amateur Open is pleased to announce its
affiliation with the NPPL. Chuck Hendsch, President of the NPPL had this to
say, “The NPPL Feeder Series program is essential to the standardization of
tournament play. I am pleased at the opportunity to sanction the IAO as an NPPL
Affiliate event. The IAO is a perfect event for new teams to be introduced to
the NPPL format. The NPPL is honored to have the world renown IAO event using
the NPPL format, rules and PRO referee program.”

According to Debra Dion Krischke of Team Effort Events, producer of the IAO,
“For over a decade there have been discussions of how to align ourselves with
the NPPL. We have tried diligently to maintain standards of excellence in
production, promotion and hospitality for the teams and industry alike.
Currently the NPPL, under the direction of Pure Promotions, is meeting and
exceeding those standards so it is now possible for the NPPL to be what it was
designed to be—a governing and standardizing body for competitive play within
the industry. Players can be assured of regulation fields, standardized rules
and qualified referees in a well managed and promoted event.”

This year’s Draxxus International Amateur Open, presented by Dick’s
Sporting Goods, will feature NPPL ref training and the ability for players to
receive a temporary ID card or join the NPPL Players Association which offers a
multitude of amenities to the player. Team Arsenal, an up and coming pro-team,
will be offering a players clinic to help out some of the younger team

As the NPPL evolves, players can look forward to authorized feeder series,
such as the Pan Am circuit which will further lend to the universal standards
for competitive play.

The IAO is the oldest, stand-alone event in paintball and has served as a
non-political haven for vendors, manufacturers and players to come together
once a year in an atmosphere of acceptance and camaraderie. The Industry
Conference offers anyone in the business of paintball the ability to learn from
experts, share ideas and meet all the VIP’S in paintball.

Uh huh, meanwhile they're going to close the pro division, no more pro
teams, meaning the more amateur teams they can get to sign up, the fatter
the purse gets for the pros. A pal of mine belongs to a team that went NPPL
pro this year, they heard some real whining and bitching from some of the
existing pro teams, "You guys are just going to cause the pie to be sliced
too many ways." These characters think they can smell some big money from
television, that's why they don't want more teams in the pro division, they
want the biggest slice of that pie they can manage.

You wanna know how to trash a sport? Let the greed take over.

Ah, but now they're improved it, it's corporate sponsored now, so if your
team is smart enough to be sponsored by a major circuit supporter, then the
penalties the refs call miracuously disappear or are reduced to minor
annoyances, while teams that don't have the right connections can actually
be expelled from the same event for the same infractions. Surely that's a
huge improvement over the old disorganized cheating.
