I know that we have a couple gamers in here so I was just wondering if
anyone has picked up this game yet (http://www.cityofheroes.com/)? This is the first MMORPG that I'm actually thinking about buying and paying to play just because it soulds pretty kick ass. More than likely I'll wait to pick it up untill the City of Villains extension comes out for it and hopefully I can pick up both as a package deal. So, to my real question. When I get the game, what do you think the best super powers are to have? Flying is pretty much given, but what else do ya think? -- -=GriFter=- |

So MMORPG could actually be vague to where Half-Life and Ultima Online would
fit in that category? I WANT HALO!!! "MathU41" <mathu41@aol.com> wrote in message news:20040603233607.19105.00000513@mb-m02.aol.com... > >RPG I know, but what is MMO? > > > > Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Like Everquest. |

Halo would fit in the multiplayer FPS category with Half-Life, CounterStrike, various Quakes, and Unreal Tournament, UT2k3, and UT2k4, and of course the smaller names. I'm not clear on Neverwinter Nights. Never played it or saw it up close. I know it's an RPG, but not sure if it's actually 'massively' multiplayer. |

I guess I can count my lucky stars that I don't see the point of those type of games. I'll take a good first person shooter any day of the week, thank you very much. From what I understand, they are not only addictive and all-consuming, but also, for some reason unknown to me, expensive as hell(??? why is that? I keep hearing about ebay auctions for everquest stuff...). I've already got ONE expensive hobby, thank you very much. -- Jeff Goslin - MCSD - www.goslin.info It's not a god complex when you're always right |

My question is really this: what about these games costs exorbitant amounts of money? I can understand a connect fee to play, something like a monthly fee, something like that. But beyond that, I just don't understand what people spend their money on with respect to these games. I hear of people actually buying stuff *inside* the game, buying digital things, like characters and whatnot. I kind of thought the point of the game was to PLAY the game, rather than BUY the game. But hey, that's just me. -- Jeff Goslin - MCSD - www.goslin.info It's not a god complex when you're always right |

I kind of thought the point of the game was to PLAY the > game, rather than BUY the game. But hey, that's just me. Most of the games can be played with only a fee to connect to the appropriate server. However, people always want their characters to be special and different. Some servers offer ways inside the game to customize one's character beyond what the ordinary game engine will allow (for a fee, of course). People who get addicted to these types of games are all about customization, even for a price. Then, you've got the folks who want to short-circuit the system and have a kick-ass character without putting in any time or effort. That's a lot of what you see on Ebay... folks sell their high level characters to the greedy "want it now" masses. They build up a powerful character, sell the access and password on Ebay for a price, start a new character, rinse, repeat. It's bizarre and somewhat sad... could be worse though. At one point (and for all I know it's still the case) one could play collectible card games online and buy "packs" of digital cards. You're paying cash for collectible zeros and ones that you don't even have in your own possession... they're stored on the game server. BJJB |
