I was wanting to know if airsoft discussion is allowed on this newsgroup,
if so, if it is a faux pas to utter the word "airsoft", or if not, any
newsgroups about airsoft.

What do you think???? its rec.sport.paintball not rec.sport.airsoft. Do a
newsgroup search for airsoft Im sure that there are airsoft newsgroups
around, and yes some hillbillies in here play airsoft but we still love them
so you may get a response from some of the airsofters in here... who knows.

Airsoft is not usually discussed here, unless it's in the context of
something like:

"I caught a couple of Airsoft players eating out of my garbage can last
night."

or

"Some Airsoft player tried to **** my dog again."

or

"When I found out he was an Airsoft player, I understood why he kept pissing
in his pants and bumping into things."

Okay, I'm kidding. :-)

I think some folks on here have tried Airsoft, but we don't talk about it
much. On this newsgroup we like to focus only on paintball. Or beer. Or
movies. Or building your own bar in the basement. Or Mofaz's tastes in
women. Or credit card fraud. Or computer programs. But not Airsoft.

I try to be a live and let live kind of guy, and I know some people into
airsoft who are otherwise okay. But I must confess, airsoft seems to
attract more than its share of, oh, let's call them, geeks. I've just seen
too many mouth-breathers with their faces pressed up against a display case
full of airsoft guns to be impressed by this community. They are
*fascinated* with the realistic appearance of these things, and when you see
them dressed up in their authentic uniforms and authentic insignia and
authentic etc., literally sitting in the dirt eating C-rations at lunchtime
because that makes it a more authentic experience, well, it makes me that
much happier to be a paintball player. Maybe it's because I've been around
real firearms virtually all my life, they just don't have that forbidden
fruit fascination they do for some people, and I guess I feel sorry for
those who go all sweaty at something that looks like a *real gun* they can
play with. In all the years I've been playing paintball, I've only met a
couple of folks who seemed to have some sort of weird war movie running in
their heads while they were on the paintball field, but it almost seems like
most airsoft players are on that kind of trip. Maybe they spent a little
too much time playing those video games that are supposed to cause
personality disorders or something.

There was a guy that showed up at the field where I play last summer.
Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. But he was more into Airsoft than
paintball. And the way he described the "ranking system" and "addressing
your superiors", it made it sound more like military school or some sort of
cult. I'm assuming that he was the exception, and not the norm.

I know of one group of airsoft players who apparently have a guru, a
supposed special forces vet who teaches them all the tricks of the trade out
in the woods, like a bunch of middle-class ninjas with plastic airguns.
Geez, some people have way too much time on their hands.

My experiences with airsofters mirror Dev's and yours. They are, for the
most part, far too "involved" in the details of copying military existance.
Having fun is not the primary goal, or so it would seem, unless the fun is
in being a fanatical nazi about attention to detail. Just my take on it.
