Or at least be specific. Since today is my day off I was hoping and
preparing to play some p-ball at Urban Warfare, an indoor field I frequent (and is the topic of my cursing post) in Northwest Phoenix. On the site--www.uwpaintball.com--it clearly states under "Open Play Hours of Operation" that they're open for--what I assumed--open play Tuesday thru Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. So, I call them up to find out if many players have shown up. I was then informed that they're "actually not open on Tuesdays". HUH? But your site says... "Hmmmm... I dunnno what to tell you" is the reply I get. So, here I am sitting in front of my computer in my uniform ready to go, with my equipment loaded in the trunk of my car and I find out they're not open today? Grrrrrrr! Damn field operators! Hrmph! Go and spoil MY hopes of playing will you! *Whining finished* -- Mofaz "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) |

I was thinking the exact same thing. I got visuals of this hitler youth guy all decked out in his new uniform waiting with baited breath to go out for the fuhrer or something. To, uh, what, hide in amongst all of the destroyed buildings and piles of rubble and concrete left over from the armageddon of your previously enacted naval and aerial bombardment to soften the landing zone?? When will you fucks learn that the best camouflage in an indoor setting is simple solid dark colors. I play in dark sweatpants, a dark tshirt, and if it's cold a dark overshirt. My mask is black. The only non-dark color I wear is a red bandana, and that's simply so my teammates know who I am. You see a red bandana, you know it's me. My personal fave is when the guys show up at the indoor place I play at in woodland camo and face paint. I guess you'd laugh when they painted Ships pre-radar in camo too huh? You realize camo isn't suppose to make you invisable or "hiding" you. It's meant to disrupt the outline of the shape of a body..... Unless it's a gullie duit of course. |

It's meant > to disrupt the outline of the shape of a body..... Unless it's a gullie duit > of course. Sometimes it's like shooting fish in a barrel with people as stupid as you. *sigh* ok, we'll start from the beginning. Not entirely unbelievably, you managed to get the point of camouflage, to disrupt the outline of a known shape, so as to make it unknown to the human eye, at least at a glance. Here's the problem with camouflage in an indoor setting like most paintball arenas: Part One: The disruption of the human shape that is performed by the camouflage patterns worn, in order to be effective in ANY way, must more or less match the terrain it is being used in. Hence the variety of patterns used by military forces, for jungle, urban, desert, snowy terrain and so on. Part Two: The standard acme indoor paintball arena is generally a light brownish concrete floor with bunkers made of pallets, culvert tubing, air filled brightly colored balloons and whatnot placed in various locations. Part Three: No standard military pattern fits in with ANY of the standard configurations of paintball fields described above. Conclusion: The ONLY possibility of wearing standard camouflage at a standard indoor paintball field is to actively DISTINGUISH you from the surrounding terrain, thus distinguishing you as a target to a scanning human eye. Wearing urban camouflage in a place NOT filled with rubble will only serve to accentuate your human form as being something FOREIGN to the surrounding terrain, the exact OPPOSITE effect that camouflage is SUPPOSED to have. Solution to Problem: When the terrain is even in color and patterned in shape and form, as it usually is on a paintball field, the ONLY camouflage that has any chance of performing it's duty, is camouflage that allows you to blend in to the shadows made by the bunkers and corners, hence, dark clothing. Please note: I am *NOT* suggesting that camouflage is ineffective on woodland fields, as it obviously is effective. Merely I am stating that wearing camo at an indoor field is superfluous at best, and actively working against you more likely than not. And ships pre radar were painted light grey, so as to blend in to the water and sky as best as possible. -- Jeff Goslin - MCSD - www.goslin.info It's not a god complex when you're always right |
