I wanted to see if one of you could recommend a decent aftermarket barrel
for a Kingman Spyder Xtra. Please don't tell me to buy a better gun. I am
an old married dude that isn't planning on spending a ton. The guys I play
with just play in the woods for recreation. Any other good upgrades that
you could recommend would be great also. Thanks in advance.

I have a Spyder, myself. Love it for it's simplicity, and gonna keep it as a
backup after my Bushmaster gets here (damn backorder). Anyway, just about
anyone on thise group will tell you to buy a J&J Ceramic. Probably the best
bang for your buck. An Armson Stealth or just about anything by Smart Parts
would be good, but I'm personally opposed to Smart Parts right now.

In addition to the recommendations already fielded, many folks get
good results with Lapco barrels. J&J's multi-bore `edge' kit is
supposed to be good as well, but might be more than what you're looking
to spend.

I'm not a big fan of Kingman, but I have to admit that for all the
bashing, their 'guns often shoot not too badly when given a decent
barrel and HPA. Maybe get a motorized hopper, too, but I'd draw
the line there -- those three things together cost as much as the
gun's base price.

Our guns are better because we care enough to make them as good as we
can. Now don't take my word for it, go over to the Spyder forum and
ask the president of that company why his guns are better than Mags.
When he gives you an answer come back here and tell us about it.

Thanks guys. With all of the barrel options and other upgrades things can
get confusing really quick for a newbie. I will hopefully hit the woods
with a new barrel this weekend and possibly a couple of other goodies.

I'll second the recommendation for a Lapco barrel, in particular the
BigShot, unless your looking for a quiet barrel, which the Lapco most
definitely is not. The Lapco Autospirit is a little small for most
paint used recreationally (Big Balls, PMI Premium, etc.), but the
BigShot loves it.

BTW, I'm also an old married dude that plays in the woods. I normally
use a Black Dragun (same basic design as the Kingman Spyder E-99), but
I still have my original Spyder Semi (over five years old) as a
backup/loaner and it's never failed me...

Solid recommendation. If you upgrade the marker later, you can also use the
motorized hopper on it. Maybe even the barrel, if you don't mind using a
breech adapter. If you bought an HPA tank that wouldn't be bad either as it
will give you more consistency and will be pretty much necessary if you
later purchase a high end marker.

By the way, how good is that whisper? Accuracy, volume compared to my J&J?
Looking for something kinda quiet for the local scenerios.

A DYE Xcel or LAPCO Big Shot would be good, better than factory but not too
expensive. Keep in mind the paint you shoot is half the battle, no point
getting an expensive barrel and then buying Wal Mart paint. An expansion
chamber or an anti-siphon CO2 tank (needs to be done by someone who knows
what they are doing) would also help a lot, more consistent velocities, and
thus better accuracy.
