So. We've captured him. What's the group opinion about how this will
affect the U.S. presence in Iraq?

I think the attacks against our soldiers will decrease. I feel that many
of Saddam's loyalists were loyal to him simply because they didn't want to
be branded a traitor when he came back to power (like he did the first time
we supposedly "toppled" him.)

Now that we've actually got him in custody, I think many of the fair-weather
nationalists will finally breathe a sigh of relief. Because now a
democratic Iraq is one step closer to reality. I'm not saying all our
problems are over, mind you. Not by a long shot. But a major obstacle has
been removed.

HOWEVER:

It is still entirely conceivable that

1) This is a double, and not the real Saddam

2) Saddam's capture will cause those who truly are loyal to him to do
something drastic, like pop a nuke or deploy chemical agents around U.S.
strongholds.

Slight decrease in attacks against. Then much the same. Everytime a US
presence kills civilians the religous fanatics keep pushing their
anti-american views.

I don't remember as the first time was to "topple" him. Was it? He
never came "back" to power the first time either. He was never removed
from power in the first place. The decision was no to remove him from
power in Desert Storm.

Sadam was a major obstacle forsure. Though not the largest one. He's
still hiding.

Doubt it.

Actually back before the first Gulf War, if I'm not mistaken, Saddam was
taken out of power then he killed his way back in to it... I could have my
History Channel Shows confused but nonetheless it sounds good. They said
this morning that they have done the DNA testing and have proven that it is
in fact Saddam, no doubts there. I do think the attacks will decrease, but
I still wish they would just bring our guys home. We have no one here in
America to defend us right now except for some National Guard and local
Municipalities. I mean they are now talking of reinstating the draft. I
know we have to help rebuild what we destroyed but some of those guys
haven't been home in almost a year or more. I have a friend that was
shipped out when Afghanistan started, he worked with me at the Police
Department, he has yet to return. He went from looking for Osama to looking
for Saddam. Hopefully he will be back in Feb but that sad thing then is my
other buddy thats in the Guard will leave then. I think its starting to get
a bit redundant now. Same shit different day there. If those fuckers want
to keep blowing shit up in their own country then leave them to it. Let's
pack our shit and leave, we did what Dictator Bush wanted, to capture
Saddam. I think we should call it a day on babysitting the world.

Or...
3) He got captured but before hand he made videotapes, to be released saying
that they captured a double. I don't really know why he'd do that but it
sure would cause a lot of confusion and make bush look like a fool. I guess
releasing tapes afterward would make would be informants to afraid to ever
hand over information.

Just a though

Ummm... You do realize there are 80,000,000 to 100,000,000 gun owners
in our Nation, don't you?

That makes a substantial militia....
