I'm interested in an inexpensive airsoft gun to modify into a paintball gun.
I found one on eBay for $9.99, but it's in Hong Kong. The seller clearly states on the auction page "Check your local customs regulation for importing procedures and required supporting documents before sending us the payment". Do I really need a copy of any "required supporting documents" from U.S. Customs to import this gun into the United States? I looked around on the U.S. Customs website, but found myself lost within all of the links to this form and that form. Someone help me out here. -- Mofaz "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) |

From what I remember, it's not legal to import airsoft guns unless they have
an orange painted barrel tip and have all of the manufacturer's trademarks either removed or covered in some way. (By "manufacturer's trademarks" I mean that if it's a replica of a Colt, the Colt logo needs to be removed/covered, or if it's a Sig Sauer replica, the Sig Sauer logo needs to be removed/obscured. It has something to do with trademark infrigement.) If it doesn't have those two requirements, there's a chance it might be seized by customs. The barrel has the orange paint on the tip and there are no trademarks on
the gun. However, my concern is what is stated on the auction page: "Check your local customs regulation for importing procedures and required supporting documents before sending us the payment". Like I asked before... do I really need a copy of any "required supporting documents" from U.S. Customs to import this gun into the United States? -- Mofaz "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) "ayar-15" <autococker@insightbbNOSPAM.com> wrote in message news:MZCCb.532894$Tr4.1460917@attbi_s03... > From what I remember, it's not legal to import airsoft guns unless they have > an orange painted barrel tip and have all of the manufacturer's trademarks > either removed or covered in some way. > > (By "manufacturer's trademarks" I mean that if it's a replica of a Colt, the > Colt logo needs to be removed/covered, or if it's a Sig Sauer replica, the > Sig Sauer logo needs to be removed/obscured. Sounds like you need to actually call a customs office and get the 411.

If it's only $9.99 send them the cash plush your shipping. If customs seizes
your item, at least you're only out about $20. As far as your question about needing some actual paperwork, I think that's a question you should be asking the seller to wether the paperwork is mandatory or not. -=GriFter=- "Mofaz" <sixstringbliss@spaminator.getnet.net> wrote in message news:3fda8490$0$7570$4c5eba9e@news.getnet.net... > I'm interested in an inexpensive airsoft gun to modify into a paintball gun. > I found one on eBay for $9.99, but it's in Hong Kong. I just e-mailed the guy. In one reply he tells me the tip of the barrel
isn't painted orange per the requirement by U.S. law. In another reply to a second e-mail regarding more specific questions I asked him on painting the tip of the barrel orange and trademarks, he states the following: "I have sent hunreds of airsofts to us, that will be ok". So, I suppose I can take the risk. I'll be losing $32.99 if the gun is seized. -- Mofaz "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) "-=GriFter=-" <speeder25NO@SPAMhotmail.com> wrote in message news:nEPCb.1260$mC1.701@newsread1.news.atl.earthli nk.net... > If it's only $9.99 send them the cash plush your shipping. Can you have him send it COD? If he's "sent hundreds" to the US he shouldn't
have a problem sending it to you via COD. Than if it's seized he's out $32.99 instead of you. ![]() -=GriFter=- "Mofaz" <sixstringbliss@spaminator.getnet.net> wrote in message news:3fdbe5d4$0$7483$4c5eba9e@news.getnet.net... > I just e-mailed the guy.
