I'm planning on making a helmet/Mask cam to video tape my games.
What i was thinking of doing was/is this. 1. I bought a wireless color cam w/ audio the size of a dime. 2. Mount it on the side of my mask or in the mask. 3. Put the receiver in my car and attach a V.C.R. to it and just tape the game. The only real question i have is how to mount the cam. I'm thinking of making a Plexiglas cube and mounting that to the side of my mask. |

Actually the best way to go about doing this--and it's the way I'm going to
do it when I get the cash--is, buy a bullet cam to attach to a MiniDV camcorder, such as a JVC GR-D90. The camcorder is placed in a padded fanny pack around your waist. The bullet cam is attached to the A/V In port with the camcorder set to VCR mode. This is by far the easiest way to record. The camcorder I suggested above is a quality camcorder for the buck. It retails for under $500 and it's compact. If you want smaller, then you'll have to pay more. However, what you must look for is an A/V In port, not an A/V Out port, and a VCR mode feature, which essentially turns the camcorder into a mini VCR. I've been planning on doing this for a few months. I'll probably get this whole rig by summer of next year if not sooner. Here is a good website I always refer to to find out what camcorders have an A/V In and VCR mode feature: http://shop.viosport.com/resources/i...lity&type=ntsc Once I've selected the manufacturer I search for the camcorder that has the needed features, then look for it on eBay or elsewhere for the best price. Just remember, you want a COMPACT camcorder. One with an LCD screen would be best so that when you're finished playing you can easily review the tape. -- Mofaz "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) "Paintball_4_fun" <john@somthing.com> wrote in message news:8Sasb.1650$9l4.1149625@news2.news.adelphia.ne t... > I'm planning on making a helmet/Mask cam to video tape my games. > What i was thinking of doing was/is this. > 1. Sounds like a fun project, but I wonder if it would be quite chaotic and motion-sickness-inducing to watch, considering the erratic movement one's head does during a game. Wonder if any of the paintball video outfits have tried something similar? Hmmm. Maybe if we could gyro-stabilize your head... -- Jason G [New sig coming soon. Watch this space.] |

Thinking about it ... forming an idea ... ok, got it. If you don't want to actually machine anything you could look for something pre-made (maybe a flashlight) and figure out a way to bastardize the thing to work for your application. It's a tube, it's cheap, it's availible in lots of different sizes, it already has a clear lens that will protect the camera and if you get an aluminum unit, it will be really durable and totally water proof. The other option would be to make an aluminum tube with a threaded end cap and have some plexi cut to make a lens (or you could again borrow a flashlight lens). With either design, fit the camera in the tube with space all around and spray some foam insulation in there to protect the camera from direct hits. Jose I. I also forgot to mention that you'll need a VCR to record to. So, you'll be
spending up to if not over $1000 for a portable VCR to which you can hook up the receiver. Yes, I've seen them as much as that. You buy them at spy shops. In addition to all of this you'll need a power source for the VCR. The point I'm making here is, your idea is a good idea, but it has many holes. I encountered this when looking for a way to create a goggle cam without spending a lot of money on equipment. You can easily put together a goggle cam buy purchasing a color bullet cam and a camcorder like the one I suggested in my previous post. So, if you created a goggle cam that way, you'd have spent close to $700. That includes the fanny pack, bullet cam, camcorder and cassette tapes. That's actually a good price. > 1.
