I just picked up a new set of Vforce Shields, nice gogg's, they are
pretty obviously just Vision Xtreme280 model 2, but that's cool... the
only thing wrong with the model 1's was people asking why you wore
something made by brass eagle...

But these come with an optional chinstrap. Am I the only one who
thinks this is an extraordinarily BAD idea?

after all, every time I open my mouth to speak, the goggles MOVE DOWN
MY FACE.

Is it just my big melon head, or are there others with the same
problem?

thanks...

Personally I took it off but if you want to use it then leave it loose, as a
safety not physically holding it on.

Based on my usage, I think the chinstrap isn't for cinching down tight. You
leave it slightly loose. It's just there so your mask can't be yanked off
if you fall or catch the edge of a bunker or something like that.

I took mine off but the idea was that it would prevent those rare
incidents when a person moves to ground and their mask gets caught on a
railing or bunker and flips up. I think if the mask moves when you
talk, the strap is too tight.

I'm not kidding, that kid's got a head like Sputnik! Spherical, but quite
pointy in parts.

He'll be crying himself to sleep on his huge pillow.

These additional straps have been on the back burner for years, JT is using
them now too. Some serious injuries have occured over the years as people's
masks were pulled backwards off their face as a result of snagging on a tree
branch or whatever, the straps will prevent that. I'm guessing you have the
strap so tight that your jaw is tugging on it, maybe lossen it up a few
notches.

Hrm. Just out of curiousity, how do these serious injuries manifest
themselves? I've personally *never* heard of a serious injury resulting
from a lost mask from a tree branch or the like. Are you referring to
someone getting shot in the face as an after effect? Are you referring to
someone having a neck injury or something? I'm confused...

Most of these injuries are not publicized in paintball, but they happen, in
contrast to other activities like scuba diving where the details of such
injuries are circulated to scuba shops, clubs etc. to try to prevent future
accidents. One case that came to mind was a Sheriff's deputy playing in the
L.A. area (I think) some years back, he dove for cover as the other team
opened up on him, snagged his mask resulting in it being pulled off his
face, and then a barrage of shots arrived just as his mask came off, lost an
eye. And if you've ever run a field, you'll know that a hundred times a day
some clueless rental customer will casually pull his mask up in the middle
of a game, blissfully ignorant of the storm of flying paint around him, a
chinstrap that prevents that would save the vocal chords of a lot of
referees. The need for additional straps on masks has been circulating
behind the scenes in the paintball industry for years, they're only just now
getting around to doing it, I have to wonder if there aren't legal reasons
for it, ie. they're covering their butts due to an injury lawsuit and/or
concerns from insurance companies.
